The Living River is £1million project with 70% funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the rest through the support of the following organisations:
The Heritage Lottery Fund
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) was set up by Parliament in 1994 to give grants to a wide range of projects involving the local, regional and national heritage of the United Kingdom. We distribute a share of the money raised by the National Lottery for Good Causes and fund the entire spread of heritage - including buildings, museums, natural heritage and the heritage of cultural traditions and language.
Since 1994 the HLF has awarded over £3.6 billion to more than 22,500 projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, helping open up our heritage for everyone to enjoy.
Natural England
Natural England has been formed by bringing together English Nature, the landscape, access and recreation elements of the Countryside Agency and the environmental land management functions of the Rural Development Service.
Natural England will work for people, places and nature, to enhance biodiversity, landscapes and wildlife in rural, urban, coastal and marine areas; promoting access, recreation and public well-being, and contributing to the way natural resources are managed so that they can be enjoyed now and in the future.
Salisbury City Council
Salisbury is fortunate to be home to a number of parks, green spaces, and children’s play areas, all providing residents and visitors with opportunities for sport, leisure and recreation. Many of these are right next to the rivers that flow through the City. Salisbury City Council takes great pride in these parks and open spaces and is dedicated to keeping the City green and in bloom throughout the year.
Salisbury council works in conjunction with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in nurturing areas of the city with a view to supporting and improving biodiversity, including the Avon Valley Nature Reserve and Bemerton Folly.
Salisbury International Arts Festival
Within the South of England Salisbury International Arts Festival is one of the most significant cultural organisations and one of the most important arts festivals.
The Festival plays an important role within the local community. There are free events for families and young people during the Festival including street performances and processions. Partnerships with Natural England, community groups, schools, local arts organisations and local media are developing some exciting community and environmental projects and ensuring that the Salisbury Festival remains embedded with its local community.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust
The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is Wiltshire's leading wildlife charity. Its vision is "A sustainable future for wildlife and people", and it works across two main fronts: rebuilding biodiversity and education. The Trust owns and manages 32 Nature Reserves, including a length of the River Wylye, a major tributary on the Avon. It also coordinates biological records from Wiltshire and Swindon; offers conservation advice to a range of organisations and individuals; involves volunteers in practical conservation tasks and supports environmental education activities.
Hampshire County Council
The Hampshire countryside is as diverse as it is extensive. On the coastal fringes there are excellent habitats for birds and marine life, and inland forest and woodland gives way in the north of the county to wide open spaces, downland and picturesque river valleys with a diverse variety of fauna and flora. Many of the most important sites for wildlife have been formally designated as National or Local Nature Reserves. Hampshire County Council's Countryside Service manages over 80 sites covering 11,000 acres with two principal aims, to protect and conserve the countryside heritage of landscape, wildlife and historic places, and to provide facilities and access for people to enjoy the Hampshire countryside.
Wiltshire Council
Wiltshire Council’s aim is to protect and conserve Wiltshire’s countryside heritage and provide facilities, access and opportunities for people to enjoy it.
Its countryside is special in every respect, with internationally important heritage, treasured landscapes and an abundance of wildlife. An extensive network of rights of way, country parks, nature reserves and open spaces allow residents and visitors alike to take advantage of what the Wiltshire countryside has to offer.
Wessex Water
Wessex Water is a leading water company in the South of England. The company is committed to providing customers with high quality products and services in a way that enhances the environment. To accomplish this, the company works closely with wildlife conservation organisations to support work that enhances the local biodiversity.
Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is the statutory agency for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. It has legal duties to protect and improve the environment throughout England and Wales and so contribute towards "sustainable development". The vision of the Environment Agency is "a healthy, rich and diverse environment in England and Wales, for present and future generations"
