About the River Avon
The River Avon is one of the largest of the chalk river systems in England and the current look and character of the river has been shaped by a long history of human use. The use and modification of the river and the creation of a complex network of drainage ditches and water meadows has created conditions that are able to support a unique variety and abundance of wildlife not found in other English rivers.
